There are inside and outside locations of donation bins throughout the residential areas of RIT. Use the map as an interactive tool to find a bin close to you!
"Goodbye Goodbuy! allowed me to get involved in sustainability on campus in a direct, hands-on way"
We collected statements from volunteers about their experiences
"It’s one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, and it gave me a great leadership opportunity"
There are so many reasons to volunteer with Goodbye, Goodbuy! Here are a few established incentives.
Pre-Sale Event Access
Immediate eligibility to attend the exclusive volunteer pre-sale event. This provides early browsing and purchasing opportunities before it opens to the general public.
Prize Draw Bundles
The prize draw entry system will start in the second half of the collection period from May 6th, 2026, to May 10th, 2026. For every two shifts that a student signs up for and successfully attends, their name will automatically be entered into a draw for the prize bundle. Greater shift attendance directly correlates to a higher chance of winning. Volunteers can sign up for more shifts to get their name entered multiple times.
Items During Shift
At the end of every shift, volunteers are able to pick two clothing items they like to take home.
Collection bins are set up during move-out each spring. For 2026, our collection period is between Thursday, April 30th - Sunday, May 10th.
No, we do not pick up any donations. Please place your items in any of our Goodbye, Goodbuy! bin locations.
After the spring collection, we do not accept any donations from drop-off locations. If you have large bulk items, please contact sustainability@rit.edu to discuss potential alternatives for your donation. Please consider donating to a local thrift store instead!
In addition to contributing to our amazing program that relies on volunteers like you, you also gain access to the pre-sale in the fall before we open the sale for everyone else, get entered into a raffle for some awesome prizes, and you can take 2 clothing items with you each shift.
Goodbye, Goodbuy! is run not to make money, but to prevent large quantities of good items from going to the landfill. Any money we make during the sale goes right back to the program to fund supplies, our amazing captains who direct volunteers, and keep the program running for future years.
For the collection, you will be helping set up and maintain collection locations, moving objects from collection sites to our home base, and sorting items to prepare them for storage and sale.
No, but you are more than welcome to bring your items to one of our on-campus bins!
