RIT's Bus Network is BROKEN

We want to fix it.

REPORT BUS ISSUES

The Urbanism at RIT Club is organizing to help improve RIT's bus network. We believe RIT's bus network should be:

Frequent

Buses should show up frequently at all times of the day. Students, faculty, and staff should be able to count on the bus for their planned and unplanned needs. Weekend service should not be an afterthought.

Reliable

Buses and routes should be consistent from day to day. RIT should maintain a sufficiently sized bus fleet to accommodate the growing needs of the community.

Connective

The RIT bus network should connect not only major academic buildings, but nearby apartment complexes on the east and west sides of campus, with direct or timed connections into downtown Rochester.

Since the launch of our Bus Reporting form on November 20th, we have received over 400 responses from riders on every line. Here are some excerpts:

The buses are supposed to exist for the convenience of the students and to cut down on traffic on campus, but right now it feels like we’re getting whatever pocket change’s worth of effort and consideration admin can afford, and it’s frankly unacceptable.

How come we need to combine the routes? I get if there are limitations or issues but we are never filled in. It’s pretty much a coin toss. Luckily it’s warm out to walk but once it’s really cold the busses will be way too cramped.

I can’t rely on the bus being there at the time scheduled, and sometimes can’t rely on it showing up at all. I’ve been late to class because of the bus filling up or being nowhere to be found at its scheduled time, leaving me to walk.

Didn't even have busses today. Had RIT transportation/parking vans picking students up. Had to walk instead. I have been late multiple times because of the poor bus service.
