2026 marks 125 Years of RIT Greek

2026 marks 125 Years of Greek Life at RIT, formally started in 1901 with the founding of Phi Sigma Phi, the first social Greek letter organization at the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute. Since 1901, Greek Life has become intertwined with RIT, becoming one of the longest standing communities at the University, even predating the first in the line of RIT Presidents, Carleton B. Gibson.

Since then, major accomplishments have come out of the community, including notable statistics such as 53 Student Body Presidents coming from the Greek Community since the start of the Student Association (now Student Government) in 1914, over $3 million in philanthropic and community service impact since 2017, and much more.

In 2026 in collaboration with the community, RIT Archives, and Command+g, a timeline was compiled to encompass all current and past organizations over 125 years.
