Off-Campus and Commuter Services

OCCS aims to assist off-campus and commuter students in every way possible. Whether it be accommodating students' needs, answering any questions related to living off-campus, promoting off-campus and commuter involvement through our many events, or providing a space for off-campus and commuter students to meet and mingle, our organization prides itself in supporting and growing the off-campus and commuter community at RIT.

The Commuter Lounge

Campus Center A640 and A650
Hours: Monday - Friday: 8 a.m-6 p.m.*
*The Commuter Lounge is closed during academic breaks and the summer term)

The lounge offers all off-campus and commuter students a place to relax and recharge at RIT! It's a great place to study - with comfy lounge chairs and built-in wall cubbies to store your things - and hang out with friends. The lounge offers free coffee/tea, free printing, TV, lockers that can be reserved by the semester (email us to inquire!), computers, a fridge/freezer perfect for storing your lunch, a microwave, and once in a while some snacks! We also provide a Wii, an Xbox One, board games, puzzles, and a space just for you that is dedicated to building a community among off-campus and commuter students.

Staffing the lounge at all times is our team of Commuter Ambassadors CAs). CAs can answer any questions and are here to be of service to off-campus and commuter students. They also play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of a variety of events throughout the year.  Commuter Ambassadors are a great connection to make because they are part of the off-campus and commuter community too. Stop by the lounge any time, grab a free coffee, and meet the team!

How Do We Define Off-Campus & Commuter Students?

RIT defines a commuter student as any student living at "home" (generally with a family member, parent or guardian). If you are not residing in college-owned housing or at home, you are considered an off-campus student. For example, if you live at places like Park Point, Province, The Hill, Apex or The Lodge, you are considered an off-campus student.
