If you're new here, hi. I write newsletters. Barely.

Well, it sure has been a while. I really don't have any excuses except for a combination of not really having much to include in these and also me as a person. But now I have stuff, and I no longer have an eight hour work day that uses up my mental capacity. What little I have of it. Alrighty, let's do this thing.

Intro Stuff

Since we got some newbies up in here, I figured I should do something resembling an introduction of OUTspoken (and myself, of course.) We're the Representative Student Organization for the LGBTQ+ community. Yeah, yeah, but what does that mean? Well, we are part of student government, and we are an organization that represents the students. We have a vote, we work with the school on LGBTQ+ issues, and all sorts of other stuff. Not sure how much of the other stuff we'll be able to do this year, but some of the things we do are events, chest binder fitting, and have really cool pins. I could go on and on about the things we do (you know...because that's kind of my job...) but TLDR: we represent the LGBTQ+ community and are here for you if you have any problems in that regard.

Now, more importantly, it's time to talk about me! Hi, I'm Elizabeth Sherrock, I use she/her pronouns. I am a third year computer science major, and this is my second year working as the marketing director here at OUTspoken. As marketing director I write these newsletters, run our social media accounts, and handle graphic design. Here's a few fun tidbits about me:
  • I have been to not three, not four, but TWO continents.
  • I accidentally made a handwarmer explode when I was in middle school
  • I am an ordained minister who can perform marriages
  • I lost my black Guardians of the Galaxy t-shirt from Uniqlo. It has a really cool neon design of the characters, and the size is most likely a small. If anyone finds it, please contact me immediately.

We're hiring!

Yes that is indeed correct, OUTspoken is hiring someone to be director of programming! I could explain everything about what the job entails and whatever whatever, but hey, that's what this link is for.

No Gender

One of the things we're pushing for this year is more gender neutral bathrooms, especially on dormside. We are looking for feedback from you so we know how to best help, so if you have something you want to say, we have a form you can fill out. Ugh, form sounds so official. Survey? No, that sounds too much like I'm a sleeper agent for Steve Harvey trying to nab data for Family Feud. You type stuff in a box and then we see it. There's a little thingy I can do at the end of typing out emails where I can put something in for CampusGroups forms but just in case I find a way to mess it up, here's a link. Go ham.

This newsletter is getting long enough, so I'll cut it off here. Also I can feel my ability to coherently form words waning, so that's a factor too.

'Til next time.

  • Luca, vice president: Tuesday and Thursday 1-3
  • Elizabeth, director of marketing:  Monday 1-3
  • Marrissa, director of finance: Friday 10-11 and 12-1

FORM

Gender Neutral Bathroom Testamony

Hello!  OUTspoken is currently working on a campaign to expand access to gender neutral restrooms in dorm buildings, and we want your experiences to be in the forefront of our push.  Want to help make RIT a better place for LGBT+ students?  Share your voice and experiences to tell student government why this change is so important!

Responses will be used in our campaign, but will not be shared outside of Student Government and RIT's administration.  If you'd like to leave an anonymous testimony, don't include your name in the 2nd question, and we won't use it.
