We will also be meeting at 3 on Saturday, February 25 in the Booth Wood Workshop to build and paint hive boxes for future hives! Make sure that you wear clothes that can get paint on them.
This past Saturday, club members met to learn about common bee diseases and pests and how to mitigate them from our president, Ellie. Read more below!

This Week's Hive Updates
On last week's very warm day, the Bee Board was able to go out and check on our hives!
The inspection was mostly good news! All three hives are heavy, a sign that they are healthy and have plenty of food. They were given some extra sugar (see picture above) to use as food in case they do need it later in the season.
Unfortunately, it was discovered that during the winter mice broke into our chest storage. We will be working on cleaning equipment that was impacted by the mice.

Bee Disease and Pest Mitigation Lecture!
On Saturday, club members met in Gosnell 3365 to learn about common diseases and pests that affect bee hives. We also talked about what a healthy hive looks like and how to identify potential problems. The meeting slides are on our website.
It's very important to know the signs and symptoms of these diseases and pests. Not only can they cause terrible damage to your hives--the deadly American foulbrood, for example, requires you to burn your hives because it is so contagious--but they can also harm other beehives and native pollinators.
Knowing how to identify and mitigate these diseases can help prevent environmental damage!
