RIT Study Abroad

From the Director of RIT Education Abroad
Jenny SullivanHappy Summer! This academic year, we sent 494 students to study abroad or study away! With 80 of those students to Japan and 95 of those students to our global campuses, it’s no wonder they are our most popular locations. Summer is a great time to plan for study abroad. Our office is staffed year-round so our knowledgeable advisors are available to meet and answer questions from students and parents.

It’s never to early to start planning…some dreams can’t wait!
Jenny Sullivan

Study Abroad and Your Student's Major

All majors at RIT can fit in a study abroad experience, with programs lasting from one week to a full semester. A good place for students to start exploring study abroad for their major is the Your Major Abroad section of our website.

Use Summer to Explore Programs & Meet with an Advisor

Summer is an ideal time for students to explore study abroad since they have more free time to research different opportunties.

Study Abroad Exploration Checklist for Students

  • Visit the Your Major Abroad section of our website
  • Watch a video overview of RIT Study Abroad (video is captioned)
  • Check in with their Academic Advisor
Your student can touch base to understand what classes they still have left to take toward their degree program, and then look to take some of those classes while studying abroad. Academic advisors work all summer.
  • Start searching all programs in the RIT Study Abroad Compass (our program and application database)
  • Meet with an RIT Study Abroad Advisor
Our advisors are available to meet all summer via Zoom.
    • Students interested in an RIT Global Campus program (Croatia, Dubai, or Kosovo) can meet with Myles Chalue
    • Students interested in one of our many affiliate partner programs (Arcadia, CIEE, CIS, SAI, IES, and a few others) can meet with Roseanne Hernandez

Most Popular Study Abroad Countries

For the 2024-25 Academic Year, these were the most popular countries with RIT students:

#1: Japan
#2: Croatia
#3: Italy

Highlighted Location - Croatia

Croatia consistently ranks in the top three study abroad locations for RIT students. RIT Student in Dubrovnik

  • Students can study at RIT Croatia in Zagreb (the bustling capital city) or Dubrovnik (a stunning seaside town).
  • All classes at RIT Croatia are taught in English, and English is widely spoken in Croatia.
  • Croatia semester programs are a good fit for students studying business, computing, hospitality & tourism management, and new media design.
  • Croatia summer programs are an ideal option for students of all majors. Students can spend between 4 and 11 weeks in the summer taking courses in business, ecology, or psychology.

Parent Tip
At least one parent should keep a valid passport on hand if their student is studying abroad. In an emergency, quick travel may be necessary—having a current passport ensures you can be there to support your student without delay.
