PCC News for Tuesday, April 8th:

Image ID: Through an open window we see a clean, snow-free path along the Genesee River. The setting sun is out of view, but its rays reflect on the surface of the water along with puffy orange and yellow clouds. The view of the river is blocked by trees without a lot of leaves, but there's a sense that they'll be bright and green in a little while. The view is quiet, but not for long.

Church! The church lives. You are each carrying so much.

We have so much to do, we are in a collective moment where we're at capacity but not catastrophic. (Okay, some moments are intense.) Last week taught us how collective protest, worship, and artistic creation can fit together to embody hope.

Lean into the rough joy of what's on your plate. We'll plan as much as we can while we stay nimble and ready. (Not too reactive, though.)

Onward, beloved. To the cross and to whatever lies beyond.

Worship Remix Tonight: Resistance Bible Study

PRISM (Up near Fireside Lounge)
5:00 - 6:00ish

Psalms. Are. Resistance!

We'll lectio divina a bit then consider how poetry is a faithful response to fascism.

Let's make something new as these ancient words ring in our ears.

~*~* Christianity is Magic*~*~

I spent Saturday resting and refilling the well, I didn't have the spoons to get out and join the protests. (Had to get my act together for the weeks ahead; in times of crisis we take turns going out and staying in.)

So I spent some time on FB lifescrolling to watch activist and organizer friends at the Hands Off rallies. It was an outpouring of resistant faithful boldness. All of my friends and chosen family who are retired (old-school hippie church battleaxes) were on the streets making rowdy noise for change. Here are some of PCC's church elders doing the work:

This guy showed up with a very cool priestly stole and his textual attributions in CHECK. This'll be a great Bible study meditation to get a list of all these quotes, who's gonna do it?

Jim was our next door neighbor in Manhattan, Julian's known him for decades. He's a filmmaker, dedicated Methodist straight dude ally, he'll share a beer with you and tell you what he really thinks. He was here a few months ago to say hi and sends his love to you all. He said the Manhattan protest changed his life, which is really saying something. He's been to every protest ever.

Greg and his beautiful wife Deb are PCC royalty! Greg was PCC's Chaplain in the early 2000s. He's a songwriter-pastor whose legacy in PCC involves starting a rock band, Bush protests, and bringing contemporary music to PCC worship including original songs he wrote. He's on our GACM board now, you'll meet him soon enough. (GREAT acronym work.)

Once we put down our work for the semester, perhaps we'll make our signs and get out there too. For now, let's let others take the work while we finish up the work at hand.

Coming Up:
  • Holy Week's on its way, we're going to be doing a Discord-worship Last Words of Christ service, drop a line if you'd like to be a part of the preparation. It'll be a light lift, promise.
  • PCC Discord's here! Can't wait to grow our community into digital spaces. Let's spend a week or two puttering around getting to know it and each other.
  • Drop-in Counseling is happening today! We've already got some folks locked in until about 3:45, busy week.

Our email address is: sjksrl@rit.edu
