PCC News for Tuesday, October 31st:

Kazuki got his Canine Good Citizen award this past week as part of his tireless journey towards becoming a Therapy Dog. I couldn't be more proud of these two. (Kaz is pretty sheepish about this whole award thing, what a humble beast.)

This week in church history is all about change and remembrance. We acknowledge and name how injustice can be reformed as we name and honor those who came before us. And here we are, right in the middle. We're pacing ourselves: Grace abounds in how we'll take our time these sleepy days. Can't wait to see you amidst all the things on our collective todo lists.

Save the date! Chaplain Sam's Installation:

Sunday, November 12th from 5:00 to 6:30ish at the U of R Interfaith Chapel. (Then a light reception.)

A pastoral installation is something like a Jr. Ordination. It's part worship, a way for us to feel churchy with interfaith neighbors and representatives from the UCC in our region. It's also a way to ritualize the rightness of... this. We spent a year interrogating whether the call was right and now we're saying it out loud.

And we can't do it without PCC-ers! Please show up in your cutest garb, bring a friend. We're gonna bring over as many of our PCC @ RIT folks as we can, let us know if you need a ride. The meaning and spirit of this day will ripple on far beyond one service, we can't wait to see you there.

Tonight! PCC Karaoke Club:

Why do we sing? For ourselves, for others, and for our world. Tonight it'll be our song for healing, we know that the art & music we create can be a balm during trying days. Don't forget, the two rourules of PCC karaoke club are: Be a good audience member and sing from the heart. We can all do that.

5:00 - 6:00

Q&A with Chaplain Sam:

We had a ton of feedback from the DEIA panel a few weeks ago that involved students texting panelists questions about college, life and faith. Let's get some of those fantastic questions answered!

How have all of you in your respective jobs and walks of life dealt with people who refuse to see reason/treat you like a person?

I struggle with this as a clergyperson, for sure. My dear friend Rev. Micah reminds us all that “Church is performance art,” it’s even more apt as we consider how Ministers can involve a certain sort of constructed professional  persona. Chaplain Sam is the best version of me: he doesn’t get mad, he remembers to text his friends back, he can find a way to show compassion even when it’s tough. I love the responsibility and burden and joy of developing this persona but at times it’s hard to be real, fallible and human. Being treated like a real person in my work is a real gift when it happens, grace abounds!
