PCC News for Tuesday, September 26th:

While on a hike the other day I found a swimming hole I'd never seen before. You never know what will be waiting around the corner.

Steady days, scholars. This week we're going to listen to our community and takes it slow with some games. There will be time to sing karaoke and go line dancing in the weeks to come. For now? Let's prioritize health, meeting deadlines, and quality time together. We'll reflect and rest as much as we can before we push forward again. If you need anything, we're here to help.

Tonight: PCC + CAPS Game Night

This is a dream colalboration, folks. PCC + Counseling & Psychological Services are here to create a therapeutic gaming community. We know gaming can heal! We're going to start small with board games & DnD but will grow into console games over time. Bring a friend, let's play some gentle and expansive games together to get to know one another.

Karaoke Club Reminder

While our karaoke club won't be for a few weeks, here's a reminder of the three songs to meditate on / practice for our next session:
  • A song to help or heal
  • A song to challenge or subvert
  • "My theme song."
Don't forget, the two rules of PCC Karaoke club are to sing from the heart and be a good audience member! We can all do that.

Q&A with Chaplain Sam

We had a ton of feedback from the DEIA panel a few weeks ago that involved students texting panelists questions about college, life and faith. Let's get some of those fantastic questions answered!

My dad is a pastor, but has many negative opinions about my sexuality. How should I respond to these negative comments without being negative myself?

It must be frustrating and difficult for you two to communicate, I’m sorry to hear it. It’s not right to lob scripture as an answer to life’s problems; we hope that the Bible can be a warm sweater to keep us going. That Matthew 5 verse about “an eye for an eye” invites us to ponder if retribution and revenge will make us happier. Should we lash out when folks are being unfair with us? It depends; often it doesn’t help us or them. Perhaps setting boundaries and loving your dad despite his understanding of your identity could help him come around to the side of compassion; a pastor should truly know that God asks us to love folks as they are. As an elder queer let me tell you, sometimes folks just need time.
