PCC News for Tuesday, October 7th:

Image ID: A gravel dirt road descends into a fiery line of trees. Beneath a blue sky, human engineering and God's grandeur intersect on a warm fall day. This would be the most bucolic fall pastoral Western New York has ever seen... except... there is a giant blurry dog face taking up half of the lens. Instead of a tree we see a crinkled red tongue, a drippy nose, and expectant puppy eyes. "Can we stay out here forever?", the blurry dog appears to ask. It was a good walk.
May our hearts be full; may our brains be as smooth as Kazuki's. Have an amazing fall break, folks. We're naming it now because you're so close to some unstructured time off to rest and recuperate.
Don't fall prey to the siren song of overworking this week! Take it easy, show up when you can and we'll all find our way through the foliage. See you for some fun, some community service, and some laughs before we all head off.

Tonight: Dinner Dialogue
PRISM (Campus Center 2050)
5:00 - 6:30ish
What would you like to eat, folks? Indian food? Szechuan again? Sign off on discord. We'll order something and get it delivered at 5:00.
Let's check in! Resistance work can feel hellishly theoretical sometimes until we get to the nitty gritty, this one will be a Liberation Theology 101 session with the Chaplains.
We'll keep it fun, promise.
Thursday Blessed Sacrament Service Work
UR Chapel Doors -> Blessed Sacrament Church -> UR Chapel Doors
5:00 - 7:30
All hands on deck! We're back for our favorite service project.
We need 4-6 of you lovely scholars to step up and serve our neighbors in need.
Want to experience a blessed study break?
Want to see some church ladies who kick ass and keep their community alive?
See you there.
~*~* Christianity is Magic*~*~

I hope you bring Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny energy to the week's challenges. She won an Oscar for this role and somehow it still doesn't feel like enough accolade.
We've been talking a lot about this movie on discord for the past 24 hours. Have you seen it? (Your parents probably have.) It's a 90s comedy classic that has a lot to teach us about getting over snobbiness, legal ethics, with a splash of liberation faith in there.
I found this blog where one of our ecumenical Catholic neighbors explores the faith-related themes of the flick, it's cute. I could wax poetically about Tomei being the Christ-figure of the film -- suffering, non-violent, non-conformist, RADIANT -- but I'll save the sermon.
Chrisitanity is magic because Gospel ethics can be infused into all sorts of fun surprises. My Cousin Vinny is a good Christian film, even though it's a secular expression. Perhaps because it's so earthy and real, as "secular" media tends to be?
PCC movie night soon let's gooooo.
Coming Up:
- Want a fun, relaxing way to engage with PCC? Join on discord for geeky conversation, spiritual reflection, and new ways of thinking about faith.
- Join our lovely TABLE Community on Sunday nights for worship and dinner! Been collaborating a lot with Pastor Craig over the years, he's an amazing guy. If you're curious about details, PCC co-president Atticus can help.
- Drop-in Counseling is happening today! See you 2:30 - 4:00 at my office just off of Fireside Lounge. Put your name on the dry erase board and knock if you want to wait in line, can't wait to catch up.
