This Week's Hive Updates
Some exciting news out of yesterday's hive inspection! Hive A has swarmed and has some new virgin queens. With this swarm, we have started a brand new hive, Hive B. For more pictures, check out the hive-inspections channel on Discord!
Hive B:
- Newly caught swarm
- 5 undrawn frames
- 5 frames from hives D and C with a few workers on them
- Should be a mated queen, so we should see eggs on the next inspection
Hive A:
- Finished swarming, found 4 newly emerged/close to emerging virgin queens (but decided to leave them in and let nature take its course) (see the picture above of Ellie's favorite queen--the black bee in the center!)
- lots of pollen and brood
- Honey super is still partially filled/drawn out so didn’t add another one
Hive C:
- lots of brood and pollen
- eggs seen
- lots of queen caps but no eggs in them
- 0 mites on powdered sugar roll
- Added a honey super
Hive D:
- Lots of brood, pollen, and nectar
- queen cells with royal jelly and eggs, no capped queen cells seen (should be split/swarm in about 2 weeks)
- A little aggressive
- Added a honey super
