RIT Rugby Summer Update
Hi everyone,
Hopefully you are all having a good summer and are getting yourselves back into shape and excited to play rugby again.
Communication is going to look a little different this year (and hopefully better), starting with these emails. We will be sending out regular newsletters with updates about our club and important dates ahead, and we will also be sending announcements like match day plans or practice changes by email.
We are also moving our GroupMe chat to a new Discord server. This will serve as a social group chat as well as another way to share announcements and important links. Join the server here as soon as possible so we don’t have to keep bugging you about it.
Now on to the exciting stuff. As you all should know by now, we are officially in the DII Liberty Conference. This means we have five league games to look forward to. We will also again be practicing four days a week this fall. Here are the schedules:
Practice:
Mondays: 6-7 at Grace Watson Field
Tuesdays: 6-7 at Grace Watson Field
Wednesdays: 6-7 at Grace Watson Field
Thursdays: 6-7 at the Turf
Matches (Kickoff times TBD):
9/2 vs. UB (Preseason friendly)
9/9 @ RPI
9/16 vs. Oswego
9/23 @ Cornell
9/30 @ Marist
10/14 vs. Albany
We will also look at doing film sessions once we have match footage to review, so stay tuned for updates.
Being in a league like this means that we should all start to expect more from each other. Rugby is a sport where you need 15 men on the field to play, but we need a lot more than that if we want to find success. This means showing up to practice as often as we can and with intent to improve. It also means a step up in commitment on match days this year. Our matches at Marist and RPI are on the order of 4 hours from RIT, and we still intend to field two sides. These will be long days, but they will be much more worth it if we do our part to field a strong side and win.
With all this in mind, fill out this form with your availability for each of our matches. Please don’t make me bug you about this and do it as soon as possible.
I look forward to seeing you all soon and playing some rugby again.
Duncan
