Hello Tigers!

RIT Beekeeping Club members were busy this weekend, attending both the club's first official meeting of the year and the fall semester's honey extraction!

At our next club meeting on 9/17, we'll be making soap using some of the wax and honey we collected! Check the Discord soon for the meeting time and location.

Honey Extraction

Club members met at the community garden on Sunday to gather honey-filled frames for extraction.

Once the frames were gathered, they needed to be uncapped and spun to release the honey. The honey was then filtered and jarred.

Thanks to everyone's hard work, we have 84 4 oz. jars of honey to sell, plus some extra for next meeting's soapmaking!

Several members of the Beekeeping Club gathered around a hive, preparing to inspect it.

Hive Inspections

Make sure to fill out our hive inspection waiver before signing up to join us at a hive inspection! Some times have already been uploaded (weather permitting), and you can see all of the hive inspections on our sign up sheet here.
Anyone can join an inspection regardless of experience! Make sure to wear shoes with socks that completely cover your ankles and let the Bee Board member leading the hive inspection know if you have any known allergies to bee stings.

Get Connected!

We have a discord where we frequently send out reminders about meetings, hive inspections, and honey extractions. Make sure to join here to have access to this information!
