Motivation & Mindset

Are you procrastinating? Not feeling motivated to go to class, do your homework, or be active?

From helping you work toward a growth mindset to offering classes to help you create structure and motivation, RIT offices can help!

What's a growth mindset?

Students with a growth mindset understand they can become more knowledgeable through work, by using effective strategies, and by seeking help from others when needed. Watch this video of Carol Dweck to learn more about the concept of growth mindset.

RIT has resources to help you develop your growth mindset and create that motivation you're looking for:

CaPS Workshops

Counseling and Psychological Services staff are available for preventive programming focused on the developmental needs of students and to maximize the potential of the academic experience. Programs aim to help students acquire new knowledge, skills and behaviors; encourage positive and realistic self-appraisal; foster personal, academic and career choices; enhance the ability to relate mutually and meaningfully with others; and increase the capacity to engage in a personally satisfying and effective style of living.

Spirituality & Religious Life

We understand that college is hard. Struggle is normal. You have many resources to help you cope and succeed. Religious and spirituality are among these resources. Our spiritual and religious lives help us develop a sense of equanimity and resilience. Spirituality & Religious Life supports this in many ways. First, it can help to get connected to an on-campus community, off-campus community, or online community. It helps to connect with others who face similar struggles.

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

RIT's certified Supplemental Instruction (SI) program is designed to proactively support students enrolled in supported sections of traditionally challenging courses. SI sessions are offered twice weekly to help students increase their understanding of the course material while learning applied study skills from a peer leader who has successfully completed the course. Through structured one-hour sessions in an academic setting, students are encouraged to work collaboratively to identify what to learn and how to learn it.
