Join us for an interactive conversation with Sarah Brownell, faculty in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering, who leads the Black Soldier Fly Composting Project on campus. Learn how these remarkable insects transform food waste into valuable compost, a reduction in emissions, and insights on an innovative model for sustainable waste management.
Sarah will share her work breeding and caring for the flies, what they teach us about circular systems, and how this innovative project could help us build a more sustainable future. This is a hands-on opportunity to explore an unexpected (and surprisingly fascinating!) side of climate action.
We will meet in Slaughter Hall (078 - SLA-2170) to start, and then will transition to the shed to meet the flies and see some of the operation.
