As part of Native American Heritage Month, students are invited to Ganondagan, a National Historic Landmark. Spanning 569 acres, Ganondagan is the original site of a 17th century Seneca town.
The newly built Seneca Art & Culture Center tells the story of Haudenosaunee contributions to art, culture, and society. It features an interactive multi-media exhibit gallery with changing exhibits, and an Orientation Theater featuring the Iroquois Creation Story film. There is also a gift shop where guests can purchase authentic Haudenosaunee art, crafts, jewelry, and gift items.
Ganondagan also has a full-size, Seneca Bark Longhouse which is fully furnished to reflect a typical Seneca family from the late 1600's. Access to the Longhouse is seasonal, so it may not be available to visit.
The trip is no cost to students and includes a charter bus to and from RIT, admission, and guided tour. Students should bring spending money if they wish to purchase anything at the gift shop.
