10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
- utilizing follow along methods to gain understanding of body awareness, movement comprehension, and posture.
- Drills to improve comfortability with freestyle, technique, variations, intention.
- Short combo to understand pockets, transitions, and misdirection concepts as it relates to timing.
This workshop will be taught by James Levy Jr. (T.E.I.N.).
James Levy Jr. (T.E.I.N.) is a Hip Hop/Funk Styles dancer, educator, and performer from Buffalo, New York. He has been a part of the dance and arts community for over 15 years. He is an adjunct professor for Alfred University and the University of Rochester, teaching Hip Hop history, culture, and dance. He works with multiple dance studios and schools in and out of Buffalo. He has also set work in multiple dance programs including University of Buffalo, SUNY Fredonia, and Buffalo State University. A noteworthy accomplishment is the collaboration with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for multiple concerts. Sharing and exchanging through teaching, competing, and community outreach, he hopes to continue bringing a positive and uplifting energy to those around him through the education of street dance and culture.
11:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Students will learn foundational movement going across the floor culminating in a combo. This workshop will be taught by Christian Quayson.
Christian is a choreographer, dancer, and educator from Ghana, West Africa. He received his Bachelor's in Dance from the University of Ghana and is currently pursuing his Dance MFA at SUNY Brockport where he is a touring manager for Sankofa Dance and Drum Ensemble. His areas of expertise consist of African Dance, contemporary African Dance, and Afrobeats.
3:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Students will engage in foundational exercises and drills in groups and across the floor, culminating in a combo that focuses on the social and communal aspect of hip-hop dance.
Julia Nguyen is a dancer and educator from Rochester, New York. She has been an adjunct professor at RIT since 2019 teaching hip hop dance as part of the NTID Performing Arts Department and RIT Wellness Program. Julia also serves as the coach for the RIT Hip Hop Dance Collective under SPA where the team won 1st place at RBDC 2024, a local dance competition hosted by RIT Velocity. Julia has traveled to Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and Toronto to attend professional dance classes at studios such as Millennium, Playground LA, the Underground Dance Center, Studio North, and Puzzle Box Dance Studio.
4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Across the floor progressions of hip hop basics and finishing class with a Hip-Hop combination. This workshop will be taught by Sienna "C.C." Jones.
Sienna “C.C.” Jones has been training competitively at her local studio located in Rochester New York . Throughout her training, Sienna has been awarded national scholarships throughout the country from numerous conventions including Artist Simply Human, Soul de soul, Nuvo and 24 seven dance. Sienna was also accepted into the Soul Elite program;where she assisted and worked closely with the faculty of Soul de soul. In addition, Sienna was an award winning soloist chosen as a standout performer to perform in convention closing shows, title holder from the Invitational talent competition, and has been awarded a scholarship to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. Currently, Sienna is a member of the Tetra dance company and teaches dance around the Rochester area. She teaches for Performance Plus dance, Studio 19 Dance Company, and Idols Dance Company. To further her dreams as a dance teacher; She has trained with numerous choreographers including G Madison, Dj Smart, Alexander Chung, Jojo Gomez etc. Overall, Sienna loves creating a positive and fun environment within her community to help fuel their passion for dance.
6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
This workshop will include Grooves, Character Building, and Constructing a Round. Elton Ward will be the instructor for this workshop.
Elton Ward is an International Krump Champion, an ambassador & curator for the Rochester dance community, he is also a leader in the Rochester Krump Movement. The founder of TRUKrump Collective which is a community camp based in Rochester for dancers to train. Dancing for 12 years in various styles, including Tutting, Waving and FlexN and on that journey, he has had the honor of participating in NYS Dance Challenge, World Of Dance, Battle Fest, StepUp Dance Competition, Rochester’ Annual Fringe Festival Show “Late and Live” to name a few. With these experiences, Elton is on a mission to spread awareness through krump by empowering and exciting the youth of Rochester.
