"... Pájaro de cuatrocientas voces,
Amo el color del jade
Y el enervante perfume de las flores,
Pero más amo a mi hermano, el hombre."
("... Bird of four hundred voices,
I love the color of jade
And the enervating scent of flowers
But most of all I love my brother, the man.")
This poem is printed in 100 pesos bills in Mexico
and is -contentiously- attributed to Nezahualcóyotl.
See you this Thursday at 6:30pm in GOS-A954 Gosnell Atrium Lobby!
The results from our availability survey are back. Most of you have agreed that Thursdays after 6:30pm would allow you to attend our weekly meetings more consistently. Meetings will start with dance practice from 18:30 to 19:30, followed with 30 minutes of music practice up to 20:00.
This Thursday we will have our first music practice! Karla Slack will bring instruments played since Pre-Hispanic times in today Mexico. Transport yourself as you learn how to play the teponaztli and the huehuetl -two types of drums, the seashell horn, the flute, or the rattle.
The purpose of Alma de Mexico RIT is to increase the visibility of and engagement with Mexican culture in RIT and in the Rochester Community by sharing the most thrilling demonstrations of traditional dance, music, food and other cultural activities related to Mexican culture.
