Scholarship Opportunity For Students
Denise Y. Giles, who was a member of the Pi Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, dedicated her energy and life to serving others. She graduated from the University of Rochester in May of 1989 and worked tirelessly to help her community. Due to domestic violence, on November 29, 1989, our beloved sister passed away. The Denise Y. Giles scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student attending the University of Rochester, SUNY Brockport, or the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Scholarship applicants must...
- Be a full time undergraduate student at the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, or SUNY Brockport.
- Attend the 29th Annual Denise Yvonne Giles Crimson & Creme Scholarship Ball on February 24, 2024, if selected as a finalist.
- Submit a 600-800 word essay answering the scholarship prompt by the due date, December 31, 2023, at 11:59pm.
- Submit a 150 word biography on themselves with the application.
This is a general scholarship awarded based on the judgment of a written essay on a pre-selected prompt. Applicants that are chosen as finalists move on to participate in the oratorical portion of the contest at the annual Denise Y. Giles Crimson & Creme Scholarship Ball. Since 1992, the Pi Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has awarded more than $10,000 to deserving students.
We are inviting students to answer the following question: "Explore your definition of relentlessness and describe what experiences shaped your perspective. How can embodying relentlessness allow you to overcome challenges in your prospective field? Detail the positive impact these concepts can have on others navigating a similar path." (600-800 word limit)
Applications must be received by Sunday, December 31, 2023, by 11:59pm.

The Pell Institute invites your TRIO Student Support Services, McNair, and EOC students to participate in a paid research opportunity about the value of college credentials.
The Pell Institute at the Council for Opportunity in Education is embarking on a journey to understand the perspectives of Black, Latinx, and Indigenous TRIO learners in regard to the value of postsecondary credentials.
The study funded by Lumina Foundation will explore students' career aspirations, financial concerns, and beliefs about the relationship between a postsecondary credential and future success. We invite TRIO college students to complete this survey. Upon completing the survey and verifying their TRIO status, the initial 1,000 participants will be rewarded with a $50 e-gift card!

The University at Albany’s Center for the Elimination of Health Disparities (CEMHD) is offering a compensated fellowship for students who want to pursue a doctoral degree in any academic program that the university has to offer, while simultaneously receiving transdisciplinary training in health disparities. The Presidential Fellowship in Research Training in Health Disparities Program at UAlbany is an exceptional opportunity for underserved, underrepresented minority students who wish to continue their education and pursue a career that relates to health disparities. The students that are awarded the fellowship would become part of a learning community that is home to one of the leading research and training hubs for health disparities in the northeastern United States.
In conjunction with their training students will receive the following financial benefits:
- Full tuition and mandatory fees.
- Stipend.
- Funding for travel to professional meetings to present health disparities research.
- Funding for student membership in health disparities related professional association(s).
The Fellowship will consist of:
- Doctoral degree in academic program spanning UAlbany’s offerings.
- Completion of the Health Disparities Graduate Certificate.
- Dedicated writing & statistical support.
- Training through placements in research labs, community groups, NGOs, state/local health departments.
- Engagement with CEMHD-supported community task forces.
- Mentoring by an experienced and trusted Ph.D. advisor, together with four (4) rotational mentors for Experiential Learning Placements.
- Rich engagement with junior and senior-level faculty in health disparities. Part of a learning community that is home to one of the leading research and training hubs for health disparities in the northeastern United States.
- Participation in national conference on health disparities hosted by the University President.
For a student to be eligible for this program they will have to meet the following requirements:
- Masters’ degree preferred (but not required).
- Member of an under-represented group.
- United States citizen or permanent resident.
- Eligible to be employed in the United States.
The deadline for receipt of applications is February 1st of the year the student intends to begin their doctoral program at UAlbany.

Northwestern SROP Applications Are Open!
The Graduate School at Northwestern University's Office of Diversity and inclusion is pleased to announce that applications are now open for our 2024 Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP), which will take place June 17, 2024 – August 2, 2024.
SROP is an seven-week competitive research experience at Northwestern University for sophomores and juniors from colleges and universities across the United States who are interested in pursuing a PhD at Northwestern.
Throughout the summer, SROP participants will conduct research directly within the program of their choice with the support of preferred faculty and student mentors. The program also includes opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and social gatherings to best prepare potential students for life as a Northwestern graduate student.
Northwestern's SROP has a limited amount of spots and accepts on a rolling basis through the winter.
All SROP participants will receive:
- $4,500 stipend (before tax)
- Round-trip transportation to Northwestern’s campus
- On campus housing in Evanston, IL
- Partial meal stipend
- Rising seniors who demonstrate that they have the potential to succeed in a Northwestern PhD program may be invited to participate in the Early Admission Decision Program.
Those belonging to groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in graduate education (e.g., certain racial and ethnic minorities, women in STEM, first-generation college students, etc.) are encouraged to apply to participate.

To be considered for acceptance into SROP, you must:
- Be a current sophomore or junior.
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

We are currently accepting applications for the Nebraska Summer Research Program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Our 10-week intensive undergraduate Summer Research Program provides a unique chance for students to delve into cutting-edge research within our state-of-the-art facilities while gaining a valuable preview of graduate school life at a Big Ten institution. The majority of our Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) are generously funded by organizations like the NSF, USDA, or NIFA, ensuring an enriching experience for participants. Please consider Summer@BSME, a 6-week summer program in Budapest, Hungary, designed for those interested in the learning and teaching of secondary mathematics. Participants explore the Hungarian pedagogy, in which a strong and explicit emphasis is placed on problem solving, mathematical creativity, and communication.
Why Summer@BSME? Today’s teachers are expected to provide students with opportunities to struggle productively towards understanding, and the Hungarian pedagogy has the potential to play a critical role in this endeavor. At Summer@BSME, we are excited for our participants to develop and bring back this new perspective on mathematics education.

The Zed Factor Fellowship invites all students interested in aerospace to apply for its 2024 Fellowship program.
The Zed Factor Fellowship is an aviation and space internship and community outreach program for undergraduate students hailing from historically excluded communities and backgrounds. Students selected for the program will receive a 10+ week paid summer or fall internship. The program encourages students in all majors, including STEM, business/marketing, communications/journalism, policy/pre-law, humanities, and social sciences to apply.
Founded by a group of aerospace professionals from diverse backgrounds, the Zed Factor Fellowship empowers and engages learners and aspiring space and aviation professionals through hands-on, practical experiences working in and contributing to the leading companies of the aerospace community. In addition to the internship placement, students will receive mentorship from an executive and young professional in their field and carry out a funded space or aviation-related community engagement project.
Applications are currently being accepted for placement with leading space and aviation companies for Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 internships. Spend nine weeks on an intensive research project. The Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) aims to expand access and opportunity to diverse students and facilitate their preparation as a pathway to doctoral studies at the University of Michigan.
Eligibility:
- Be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or non-U.S. citizens with DACA.
- Have a minimum overall 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
- Be entering their junior or senior year in college (at a school other than the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor) and not be scheduled to graduate before December 2024.
- Have an interest in pursuing a graduate degree in one of the Rackham graduate programs.

2024 University of Maryland Rnald E McNair Scholars & Undergraduate Research Conference: March 14-17, 2024
The 25th annual National Conference for McNair Scholars and Undergraduate Research will be held from Thursday, March 14 to Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in College Park, MD.
At the National Conference for McNair Scholars and Undergraduate Research our attendees gain a venue for networking, learning about graduate school programs, hearing from distinguished guests and panelists, and enjoying the sense of community that McNair programs around the country share. All students, particularly McNair and Student Support Services participants, are invited to attend! Featured workshops, social gatherings, and McNair Staff meetings are part of the experience at our Conference.
The Conference will be hosting it's Graduate School Fair, which attracts upwards of 350 - 400 high academic achievers from McNair Scholars and Student Support Services Programs from across the nation as well as students from the University of Maryland.
Venue: Main Concourse, College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, University of Maryland University College.
Schedule: Friday, March 15th, 2024; 10:30a.m. to 12:30p.m.
Conference Participants are registered by default and need not separately register for the event.
