Mission In collaboration with RIT Student Government, the Sustainability office, and the School of Communication, the Center for Residence Life has helped to establish and promote the RIT FoodShare program consisting of the RIT FoodShare facebook group, facebook page, and the FoodShare Center located at 113 Riverknoll. The RIT FoodShare facebook group was created on December 3, 2014 and to date boasts over 3200 members. The group is open to the public but the intended audience is the RIT community. Members can request to receive post notifications. Faculty, staff or students can post within the group to notify members that there is food available somewhere on campus from a department or organizational event/activity. Posts generally include a picture of the food, quantity, location and time the food will be available. The RIT FoodShare Center was officially opened on April 13, 2015 with an Open House for the community being held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. The FoodShare Center exists to address food insecurity amongst students, faculty or staff. It is open Mon-Fri – 12pm-7pm, Saturdays from 12pm-5pm. Any member of the RIT community can visit the Center to donate non-perishable items, swap out items they have for those they want, and/or take items they need. Up to five items can be taken per visit to the Center - no proof of need required.
