Peer Mentor Application
Position Summary:
The Peer Mentor program is a free peer-to-peer service that introduces students to more effective learning and study strategies. As a Peer Mentor you are modeling to students how to successfully manage and navigate the academic demands of being a college student. You will meet with individual students and groups from the campus community to present effective strategies in support of academic success through 1:1s, facilitating workshops, and hosting tabling events.
Essential Tasks:
Provide individual support for students in the areas of study skills, time management and organizational tools; facilitate academic success workshops; support community outreach efforts within the Academic Success Center; have knowledge of, and make referrals to RIT student support services; maintain accurate records regarding student meetings; meet regularly with ASC supervisor and peer staff and communicate with supervisor about student needs/progress.
Non-essential tasks:
Managing your Kronos Timecard
Assist with input and maintenance of assessment tools;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Special Skills Required:
Minimum 2.8 GPA to be considered
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong time management skills
Ability to maintain a flexible schedule
Experience with Microsoft Office
Awareness of confidentiality issues
Knowledge of RIT and the RIT community
Qualifications/Special Skills Preferred:
Previous leadership experience
Familiarity with the Academic Success Center
