 Events

Hello RIT365 Facilitators!

Welcome to Fall!

In this week’s issue:
  • Starfish Early Alerts
  • Individual Reflection Grading
  • Helpful Reminders
  • Wear it Weeks- show your RIT spirit
  • ROAR & SOAR

STARFISH EARLY ALERTS

Remember these help your students get the support they need!
  • Remember: this is your way to communicate any concerns with students and their advisors.
  • The survey closes on 10/4.
  • Only the Faculty/Staff/Adjunct Facilitator will have access to Starfish, but both facilitators should collaborate on decisions.
  • For RIT 365 specific instructions and sample messages, here is the Starfish Early Alerts Guide

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION GRADING

Students have submitted the first round of Individual Reflections! Please join us for optional grading support sessions next week!
  • Wed 10/7 12:00pm-1pm (in SAU A510 or Zoom)
    • Zoom Link
  • Thurs 10/8 4:00pm-5:00pm (Zoom only)
    • Zoom Link
These sessions are offered as support in addition to Bi-weekly meetings.

Tips:
  • Grading responsibilities are shared between both Co-Facilitators
  • Here are the rubric and Rubric Grading Directions for consistency.
  • Questions? Email Wendy at wsgrla@rit.edu.

HELPFUL REMINDERS

COMMUNITY CONNECTION
  • We're looking forward to seeing you at Bi-weekly meetings this week.
    • Please attend your scheduled meeting.
    • Contact us with any questions, changes, or in case of absence.
CLASS FLOW
  • Feeling low engagement? Revisit the strategies in your Planning Workbook.
  • Each part of the class flow helps build community and foster open dialogue:
    • Class Check-in: Low-stakes icebreaker (e.g., “What’s your favorite food?” or a 4-corners activity with seasons).
    • Dialogue-based Activity: Main activity tied to the cycle’s “CONNECT” experience to bring student experiences and perspective to the center of the dialogue. See the Facilitator Activity Guide for ideas.
    • Wrap-up: A 5-minute debrief to encourage reflection and sharing.
COACHING
  • Notes from your coaching meetings are valuable and required communication for your Co-Facilitator and the YOP team.
  • No need for poetic writing! Just capture the main takeaways from your meeting.

WEAR IT WEEKS- Show Your RIT 365 Spirit!

Let’s come together and celebrate what makes RIT 365 special. Here’s how you can join in:
  • Wear your RIT 365 T-shirt to your next Connect Experience(s)
    • It’s a fun and easy way to show your pride and support!
  • Celebrate our leaders
    • Your shirt helps spotlight the amazing individuals guiding our community.
  • Build a sense of unity
    • Create a strong visual of connection and belonging.
  • NEED A T-SHIRT? Stop by the YOP Office (SAU-A510) to grab a new shirt if you did not receive one, or would like to have another.

ROAR AND SOAR

Reminder for Facilitators: Every Sunday, Academic Affairs sends students a “Roar and Soar” email with timely reminders and success strategies. Your role is to remind students that Roar and Soar emails are delivered every Sunday with helpful tips and links to keep them on track. You can use the information below to direct students to the email when they have questions about these topics.

Roar and Soar Week 7 (Oct. 4)
  • Theme: Ask for help – Encourage students to use the academic resources available, from connecting with professors to studying with peers.
  • Tips:
    • Connect with Professors. Remind students that all faculty members list office hours on their syllabus! They can even get tips from another student in the Student Blog: How to Use Office Hours.
    • Get Help with Writing Skills. From research papers to lab reports, The RIT Writing Center helps students at any stage of the process.
    • Academic Coaches Can Help. For students struggling to stay organized, manage their time or prepare for exams, RIT Academic Coaches provide a wide range of support for navigating RIT academics.
  • Event reminders:
    • Immersions and Minors Fair: Wednesday, Oct. 7
      • Students can learn about immersions, minors, and double majors at this event while scoring free pizza, too!
      • 11am – 1:30pm in the SAU Fireside Lounge
    • Student Flu Shots: 5 Dates in October
      • Students should make an appointment ahead of time and bring their health insurance for these Wegmans-hosted flu vaccine clinics. If a student’s insurance is not accepted, they can still get the flu vaccine at the Student Health Center for $20.
    • October Break: Oct 12-13
      • Just a reminder for first-year students that there are no classes Oct 12 or 13 to give students a break, a chance to travel, or rest before midterms.
    • RIT Events Calendar:
      • Find all events open to the campus at rit.edu/events
